Fall Foliage in the Upper Valley

Whether you’re a visitor to the Northeast or a long-time resident, the turning of the trees is a magical time. The lush green forests change over a few weeks into a vast array of reds, oranges, and yellows. It’s like a last burst of flames before settling down for winter.
Leaf peeping season is spectacular everywhere in our area, but there are some particularly beautiful drives to enjoy.
The Kancamagus Highway is one such route. This 34-mile highway lies on a portion of Route 112 that runs east–west through the White Mountain National Forest. You can use this old time map to track your progress. Information (and modern maps) are also available at the Saco Ranger Station. “The Kanc” runs from Lincoln to Conway, NH, both of which offer many dining and shopping options.
The Connecticut River Scenic Byway is another beautiful route with views of both the Vermont and New Hampshire sides of the river and spectacular fall colors. There are many places to stop along the way, including the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Park in Cornish, NH.
Driving the local roads around Lyme also offer fall foliage views. Whether driving to Hanover or Lebanon for dinner and a show, north to Orford and Fairlee, or through Orford on Route 25A, the trees are spectacular during foliage season.
Come enjoy historic elegance and contemporary luxury in a casual country setting, as well as the beautiful colors of fall, at the Lyme Inn.
