There are truly wonderful dining experiences in the Upper Valley. From formal dining to holes-in-the-wall, there is a variety of cuisines and atmospheres and sometimes entertainment! There are far too many to list, but here’s a few to give you an idea.
For a bit more formal, but ties not required!
Ariana’s Restaurant here in Lyme has a menu with a fresh and local focus. There’s also a bar with a creative mixologist. One dining item on their Small Plates menu is Seasoned ground Lamb served with baby kale over large grain couscous in a rich mushroom cream sauce and topped with crispy fried leeks. Ariana’s is dinner only (5p-8p) Thursday through Sunday.
In Hanover, Pine Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch (brunch on weekends), dinner and offers a bar menu. One of their dinner starters is a Farmer’s Plate which includes Soppressata, Prosciutto, Apricot, Sweety Drops, Local Cheeses, Marinated Olives, Fruit Chutney, Mustard, Marcona Almonds, Pita, and Crostini. Pine is located in the Hanover Inn right off the Dartmouth Green.
What about breweries? The Upper Valley has them:
Harpoon Brewery in Windsor offers a wide variety of brews and alcoholic concoctions along with food options. The BBQ Sundae is roasted garlic mashed, root beer bbq baked beans, coleslaw, house-smoked pulled-pork, topped with sour cream, BBQ drizzle and of course a cherry! Open lunch through dinner, and they offer live music on Thursday.
Long Trail Brewing Company is in Bridgewater, Vermont. Enjoy beers-on-tap, seasonal selections, and limited releases. They also offer a selection of hard cider, wine, and soft drinks. One item on their food menu is Smokey & The Brisket – House Smoked Brisket, Onions, Peppers & HJibernator BBQ on a Pretzel Bun. Open Noon through 6p Su-W and Noon through 8p Th-Sa.

Base Camp Cafe in Hanover, NH serves healthy, homestyle Nepalese cuisine that blends Eastern spices with Western ingredients. Offering MoMo and Chhoila among other items Chicken Chhoila consists of Grilled chicken marinated and seasoned with fresh lime juice, ground cumin seeds, and mustard oil with fresh chilies. Served with crispy puffed rice. Starts medium spicy. Open lunch through dinner T-Su and for dinner M.
Tacos Y Tequila in Hanover says “we take life with a grain of salt, a slice of lime, and a shot of tequila.” Their Molotes are described as a fried dumpling filled with slow roasted pork, and seasoned in adobo seasoning. Veggie Molotes are also available. Open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week.
Burgers and Pub Food? Many options exist.
Worthy Burger offers craft beer and farm burgers. Their menu offers burgers, black bean patty, Turducky, chicken, and salmon. They also offer some specialty burgers. And you can build your own burger with your choice of protein and any cheese/toppings you’d like. They say there are over 25,000 combinations! Located in South Royalton Vermont they are open for dinner Th and lunch and dinner F-Su.
Poor Thom’s Tavern won the Upper Valley best hamburger award this year. They also offer a build your own option and several special burgers. One, the Bad Larry, is a local beef patty with Cabot cheese blend, apple bacon onion jam, fried shallots, roasted red pepper aioli, lettuce & tomato. Thom’s is open T-Sa 4p-9p.
Beyond the above? There are many tasty pizza places, more cuisine options, indoor and outdoor seating, and most offer take out these days.
